Tybee Island refers to both a city and island in the eastern portion of the state of Georgia. In fact, Tybee Island is the easternmost point of the “Empire State of the South”. Tybee Island has a population of approximately three thousand seven hundred residents, a substantial increase since the last census was taken in the year two thousand. Tybee Island is considered a part of the Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area, and was known as Savannah Beach for a short period of town. Tybee Island includes a total area of about two and two thirds square miles, including about one tenth of a square mile of water. Tybee Island is found at about sea level, and has a population density of just over one thousand two hundred persons per square mile.

Tybee Island was originally populated by Native Americans of the Euchee Tribe, who were known for utilizing dugout canoes for hunting and exploration. European settlers and explorers began to arrive in the sixteenth century, substantially before most of the region was explored. The name Tybee literally translates from the Native American tongue into salt, although the Spanish renamed the region “Los Bajos” in the year fifteen twenty. The first European settlement on the island was in the year seventeen thirty three, and the signature Tybee Island lighthouse was built three years later. Tybee Island held a pivotal role in the American Civil War, and continues to be a popular vacation spot and resort area.

Arguably the most interesting destinations near Tybee Island Real Estate are historic sites and natural attractions, including Lazaretto Creek, the Tybee Island Lighthouse, and Fort Pulaski National Monument. Educational opportunities on Tybee Island are offered by a number of public and private schools both locally and regionally, including Saint Michael's School, Saint Andrew's School, Howard Elementary School, and Dafuskie Island School. Attractions in and around Tybee Island include the Memorial Park YMCA, the Burton 4-H Center, the Rivers End Campground, and the Beachside Colony. Tybee Island is just a short drive away from the largest regional city, Savannah, which is home to high class urban points of interest, including shopping centers, restaurants, and historical sites.
