Richmond Hill Real Estate Information

Richmond Hill is a relatively small community found in the southeastern portion of the state of Georgia. Richmond Hill has a population of approximately six thousand nine hundred residents, and is considered a part of the Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area. Richmond Hill is found in Bryan County, and covers a total area of approximately ten square miles, including about a tenth of a square mile of surface water. Richmond Hill is currently governed by Mayor Richard Davis, and is bisected by two major roads – State Road 144 and United States 17. Richmond Hill is surrounded by a series of master-planned communities, especially in the suburb dominated regions of South Bryan County. Richmond Hill is found at almost sea level, and has a population density of roughly seven hundred persons per square mile.

Richmond Hill developed substantially later than many of the other communities found in the general area of Savannah, Georgia. Richmond Hill began its history as the town of Ways Station, a relatively unknown community except for its status as the summer vacation spot of Henry Ford. The notable automobile manufacturer and his wife, Clara, built a home in the former Richmond Plantation during the nineteen thirties. Although the residents of what is now considered Richmond Hill expressed interest in renaming the community after Henry Ford, he declined, resulting in the current name. Richmond Hill was officially incorporated as a city in the year nineteen sixty two, and is governed by a mayor-council form of government.

Although there are several private schools, colleges, and universities in the region around Richmond Hill, the primary provider of education in Richmond Hill is the local school district. The Richmond Hill Public School District includes Richmond Hill Primary School, Richmond Hill Elementary School, Georgia Washington Carver Upper Elementary School, Richmond Hill Middle School, and Richmond Hill High School.
