Pooler Real Estate Information

Pooler is a relatively small community found in the southeastern quarter of the “Empire State of the South”. Pooler has a population of approximately twelve thousand residents, at least as of figures reported in the year two thousand six. This is a remarkable figure, especially considering that the numbers indicated by the year two thousand census indicated a figure almost half the size. Pooler is situated in the Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area, and more specifically in Chatham County, one of the most heavily populated counties in the southeastern section of Georgia. Pooler is currently governed by Mayor Mike Lamb, and is found at roughly sea level. Pooler encompasses a total area of roughly twenty nine square miles, including about a fifth of a square mile of surface water, although the Atlantic is only a few miles away.

The area which is now considered Pooler was first inhabited by Native Americans, who were the only residents until the arrival of Spanish conquistadors in the sixteenth century. Pooler was initially settled by Europeans a couple of centuries later, along with the rest of Chatham County. Pooler was known as Pooler's Station during the American Civil War, and also served as a meeting place for Union generals during that conflict. Pooler has grown significantly since then, and is the center of commercial growth for the entirety of Chatham County and arguably the entire city of Savannah. Compared to the other communities of Chatham County, Pooler is relatively homogeneous both in terms of race and economic class, perhaps because of the comparatively higher income levels in the city.

The educational needs of Pooler are met by a number of local and regional institutions, many of which are being forced to consider expansion following the population growth of the area. Notable institutions in and around Pooler include West Chatham Middle School, Savannah Adventist Christian School, and Pooler Elementary School. The nearby city of Savannah also boasts a considerable number of colleges and universities for post secondary opportunities. Properties and real estate in Pooler offer easy access to a number of recreational attractions, including the Savannah Quarters Country Club, the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, and the Crosswinds Golf Club.
