Garden City Real Estate Information
Garden City is a relatively small community situated in the southeastern portion of the state of Georgia. Garden City has a population of about nine thousand five hundred residents, and is located within the metropolitan area of Savannah. Garden City is technically considered a part of Chatham County, which is the most heavily populated county in the lower quarter of the “Empire State of the South.” Garden City has decreased substantially since the last census was taken in the year two thousand, a trend consistent with the population growth of nearby communities. Garden City is a primarily industrial and suburban city, thanks to its possession of the Port of Savannah, the largest port of the Georgia Ports Authority. Garden City encompasses a total area of roughly fourteen and a half square miles, although that figure includes no large bodies of surface water.
The original inhabitants of what is now considered Garden City were, not surprisingly, Native Americans, who settled the region literally thousands of years ago. About five hundred years ago, Spanish settlers began to explore the region which is now considered Savannah, as well as a number of offshore islands and inlets. The host county of Garden City, Chatham County, was founded in the year seventeen fifty eight, although settlement began a few decades prior. Garden City is a relatively diverse community, both in terms of socioeconomic status and race. Garden City has a population density of roughly seven hundred residents per square mile, and is located at about sea level.
There are a number of educational institutions in and around the community of Garden City, both of the public and private variety. Some schools in the region include the Groves High School, Savannah Christian Preparatory School, and Garden City Elementary School. There are also a number of private and parochial institutions as well as colleges and universities in the nearby city of Savannah. Recreational points of interest in and around Garden City include Ardsley Park, Batty Park, and Southeastern Playground. Other points of interest include the Southbridge Golf Club, the Carnike Cinemas 10, the Savannah Actor's Threatre, and the Coastal Empire Fair.
