Chatham County Real Estate Information

Chatham County is one of the larger counties found in the state of Georgia, at least according to population measures. Chatham County has a current population of approximately two hundred and fifty one thousand residents, at least of estimates made in the year two thousand eight. This is an increase of almost twenty thousand persons since the last census was taken in the year two thousand, reflecting the fact that Chatham County is one of the fastest growing counties in the Empire State of South. The county seat of Chatham County is Savannah, which is also growing at a relatively rapid pace. Chatham County is found in the southeastern portion of the state of Georgia, bordering the Atlantic Ocean at several points.

Chatham encompasses a total area of approximately six hundred and thirty two square miles, which is predominately land. More specifically, all but one hundred and ninety four square miles of Chatham County is land. Chatham County is included in the Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area, which interestingly enough expands well beyond the confines of Savannah's host county. Chatham County takes its name from the First Earl of Chatham, William Pitt, and was originally founded in the year seventeen seventy seven. Due to its status as one of the original counties of the state of Georgia, Chatham County is home to a considerable array of historical sites and cultural attractions.

The educational needs of Chatham County are met by a number of public and private schools on the primary, secondary, and post secondary levels. Foremost among these are the institutions of the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools, although there are also numerous private and parochial schools. Colleges and universities in Chatham County include Georgia Southern University, Savannah State University, South University, and Savannah Technical College. Chatham includes the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport, as well as an Amtrak terminal and the Chatham Area Transit. Notable communities in Chatham County aside from Savannah include the cities of Bloomingdale, Tybee Island, Port Wentworth, Pooler, and Garden City, all of which offer prime parcels of real estate. Interesting sites in Chatham County include the Fort Pulaski National Monument, the Wassaw National Wildlife Refuge, and the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge.
